Composed of the finest traditionally spun pure Irish wool and processed by historic Irish woolen mills, the limited edition collection of rugs or tapestries entitled The Insula Series draws upon the history of ancient art forms and symbols. Inspired by Insular Art, a 7th Century artistic movement that emerged during early Irish monasticism, the works are a contemporary, minimalistic interpretation of swirling motifs and spiral forms typical of this period of creativity. Often referred to as the Age of Saints and Scholars, the era was considered a golden age for the arts in Ireland and gave rise to a genre of artistry that has had a profound influence on how art has evolved since that time. “The desire to express a more contemporary interpretation of Irish art whilst celebrating the beauty of genuine Irish wool and sustainable craftsmanship provides the inspiration for this collection”
