Tangolunda Moods
48 inches height x 18 inches width
Oil on Canvas
Humid morning clouds cling to the Pacific ocean at Tangolunda, before burning off after the sunrise. The morning palette in both the water, sky and clouds was such a thrill to see during the dry season, a season with long stretches of no clouds at all. Momentarily, the artist was in a deprived Storm Chaser's heaven. While primarily drawn to the land, and wide open horizons emphasized by the prairie's seemingly infinite space, Sheldon gravitates towards high contrast and bold colour juxtapositions. However, his seascapes, while still emphasizing a deep horizon, are gentler studies of colour and form, some even tending towards the monochromatic. The palette in Tangolunda Moods had him in a state of artistic ecstasy.
There’s nothing like a seemingly limitless prairie field in front of a powerful dark storm to inspire award winning artist & Storm Chaser Ian Sheldon and the consistently potent colors of his sky-scape representations are highly sought after.
I am most inspired during a summer storm. The energy I derive from standing in the midst of a tornado-bearing storm instills a vigour that flies out of me through the paintbrushes. I feel connected with the elements in that moment. When the sky apparently fuses with land or sea during a torrential downpour, I feel like the heavens are reaching down for a brief moment and instilling life into the arid plains. It is these events in the vast prairie that continue to inspire me, consuming my summer days as I listen for storm warnings and study the radar for an approaching downpour
It is in the vast open spaces of the natural world where I find the greatest comfort and hope.
