Rhyme Studio's textile program brings the extraordinary heritage of Irish weaving into contemporary interiors through a curated collection of pure wool textiles produced by historic Irish mills and specialist weavers. With a particular commitment to supporting the use of native Irish wool, Rhyme Studio works with heritage makers including Magee 1866 and Studio Donegal to identify and develop exceptional woven textiles for upholstery, architectural surfaces, acoustic applications and contemporary interior design.
Real Irish Wool
Most textiles woven in Ireland are not made from Irish wool. Despite Ireland's long history of sheep farming and wool production, the majority of wool used by Irish mills and weavers today is imported. Rhyme Studio has advocated for the greater use and recognition of Ireland's native fibre since the studio's inception, working directly with farmers, mills and makers to bring genuine Irish wool back into contemporary design.
Selected textiles within the collection incorporate Irish wool sourced from family farms and are woven in Ireland using generations of textile knowledge. In certain weaves, Irish wool is blended with finer imported wool fibres to achieve the softness, durability and performance required for contemporary upholstery and interior applications.
Heritage Weaving for Contemporary Interiors
From the distinctive character of Donegal Tweed to refined upholstery weaves, the collection combines provenance and material integrity with the performance required for contemporary interiors.
Selected textiles achieve commercial abrasion ratings of approximately 30,000 to 60,000 Martindale, opening applications well beyond decorative accessories to sofas, armchairs, headboards, wall panels, acoustic furniture and other interior surfaces.
Naturally renewable and biodegradable, wool also brings inherent material advantages including flame resistance, acoustic performance and the ability to adsorb certain airborne volatile organic compounds. Rhyme Studio's textile program offers designers a natural-fibre alternative to the synthetic textiles increasingly prevalent throughout the built environment.
Magee 1866
Rhyme Studio offers a curated selection of woven wool textiles from Magee 1866, one of Ireland's most celebrated textile houses, for upholstery and interior applications. Selected stocked weaves offer a refined interpretation of Irish textile tradition for contemporary residential, hospitality and commercial interiors, while additional made-to-order constructions allow for larger-scale and project-specific applications. Studio Donegal
Handwoven in County Donegal, selected Studio Donegal textiles combine native Irish wool with the distinctive colour, texture and character for which Donegal weaving is internationally recognised. With selected upholstery weaves achieving approximately 40,000–50,000 Martindale, these textiles bring genuine Irish material provenance to demanding contemporary applications including upholstery, architectural surfaces and acoustic design.
From Textile to Interior
The collection extends across upholstery, cushions, bolsters and ottomans to wall applications, acoustic surfaces and Rhyme Studio's LanaLux architectural lighting and acoustic system. Custom applications and project development are available for interior designers, architects, furniture makers and hospitality projects.
Trade & Specification
Textiles are available by the metre or yard, with sampling, trade pricing and project quotations available through Rhyme Studio. Many textiles are produced in small batches or woven to order, with production requirements varying according to mill, weave and colourway.
