The OM Series
The OM Series of Irish wool carpets and tapestries draws inspiration from Ogham, the ancient tree alphabet of early Ireland. Each letter of this 20 character architectural 1600 year old script corresponded to a tree once considered sacred by the Celts. Designs meaning words like Health, Peace, and Protect become hand knotted or tufted patterns, allowing architecture and interiors to carry messages that calm, restore, and empower. Each piece is both a design object and a meditation, a form of environmental poetry crafted in one of nature’s miracle fibers: Irish wool and forms part of a highly customizable carpet or tapestry collection that can spell just about any word meaningful to a client or project.
Derived from an alphabet that was in existence in Ireland before Latin arrived, Ogham as a language was rooted in the natural world, Known for monumental inscriptions on standing stones, it is the earliest example we have of the written Irish language, also known as Gaeilge. These mysterious inscriptions date back to at least the third or fourth century A.D, making them some of the oldest written records in the country and in use long before the arrival of Latin to Ireland. Some believe it was created by druids and scholars as a secret form of communication and its pairing with ancient Irish tree and plant species, many of which have all but disappeared from Ireland’s landscape today makes it an even more sacred inheritance.
